NAPIT Welcomes Government Announcement on Discount for New Electric Cars as Boost to Consumers and Installers
15 July 2025

More than 380,000 zero emission cars were registered last year and the Government has restated its plans to phase out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030.
The Electric Car Grant (ECG) will offer discounts up to £3,750 for new eligible electric cars priced at or under £37,000 with funding available until the 2028/2029 financial year.
Frank Bertie, NAPIT Managing Director said : “Motorists considering the switch to electric vehicles (EVs) are often put off by the higher upfront costs even though the running costs can be considerably lower.
There are now over 82,000 public EV chargepoints (EVCPs) nationwide and nearly 700,000 domestic chargepoints.
Frank Bertie added: “As the demand for new EVs grows as costs come down and range increases the demand for installing chargepoints at people’s homes will also rise.
“This provides a great opportunity for our members to ensure they are trained or upskilled and take advantage of that growth.”
Consumers can use the NAPIT Member Search to find NAPIT-registered members who can carry out EVCP installations.
