NAPIT Discusses the Role of Competence this Clean Air Day 2026
18 June 2026
Clean Air Day, celebrated on June 18, provides an important opportunity to reflect on the quality of the air we breathe and the role our industry plays in protecting it. For those working across building services, electrical installation and emerging technologies, air quality is shaped directly by competence, compliance and everyday decisions on site.
At NAPIT Training, we see how skilled installation and maintenance can make a measurable difference. Poorly installed systems, whether heating, ventilation or electrical, can contribute to unnecessary emissions, inefficiency and unsafe indoor environments.
By contrast, well-trained professionals help reduce pollution while improving comfort, safety and long-term sustainability. Clean Air Day also aligns closely with the UK’s transition away from fossil fuel vehicles to low-carbon transport.
The theme this year is ‘cleaner and greener transport’. Electric vehicles (EVs) play a growing role in reducing roadside emissions, particularly in residential areas and urban centres.
However, the environmental benefits of EVs rely heavily on the safe and correct installation of charging infrastructure. Installers must understand load management, earthing arrangements, smart charging requirements and current regulations to ensure EV charge points operate safely and efficiently.
As EV ownership continues to grow, competent installation becomes a key contributor to cleaner air. Incorrectly installed charge points can create safety risks, while properly installed EV smart chargers support energy efficiency, reduce strain on the grid and encourage the wider adoption of low-emission vehicles.
While the use of E-bikes and scooters assist in reducing pollution, it is essential to have the correct charging equipment for E-bikes and scooters suitably positioned to prevent fires and accidents. Ongoing professional development is essential as technologies and standards evolve.
From EV charging and renewable integration to ventilation and low-carbon heating, training provides the confidence and competence needed to deliver systems that genuinely support cleaner air and lower emissions. On Clean Air Day, we encourage everyone in the sector to reflect on their role.
Whether that means updating qualifications, expanding skills into EV charging, or recommitting to best practice, every action matters.
Brett Forster, Technical and Commercial Director, said: “Clean air is a shared responsibility, and through high-quality training, our industry can continue to play a vital role in delivering it.”
