Brand New Guidance to Support Consumers Before any Installation Work Takes Place
12 March 2026
NAPIT has launched brand-new guidance for consumers to help support them with questions they may have before any installation work takes place.
It includes two guidance documents, one provides consumers with 10 key questions to ask a business or tradesperson before contracting them, and the other suggests 10 key questions or confirmations a consumer should expect a tradesperson to ask or clarify before starting work.
This guidance has been created to support both the consumer and tradesperson with questions designed to provide clarity of the installation works and avoid any misunderstandings. For the consumer, asking questions can give peace of mind that the work taking place is done safely, legally and to their expectations.
For the tradesperson or business, it demonstrates compliance, professionalism and builds trust with the customer. Asking the right questions can provide clear expectations for both the consumer and the tradesperson and highlight safety planning and compliance.
Protection is also a key factor in this. If problems arise or expectations are not met, there can be consequences. Taking that extra step to get clarity and ensure a clear, written agreement is in place protects both the consumer and tradesperson.
Lindsay Hague, Head of Compliance, said: “We always recommend that consumers use accredited and qualified electricians or installers and details of NAPIT members can be found on the NAPIT website.
“NAPIT is committed to quality, safety and consumer care and asking the questions in the guidance before work starts can provide peace of mind for both parties. We encourage tradespeople and consumers to use this guidance and take the key steps before any installation work takes place.
“By making this a key part of any potential installation work, you gain reassurance, protection and confidence.”
