Description

This is a hands-on course where you will learn the practical skills and theory side of inspecting and testing. The course is an industry recognised qualification with “open book” book assessments completed within the course timeframe. Please note: the practical assessment is not open book.

On completion candidates would have expanded and improved understanding and confidence in the correct principles of Inspection and testing of new installations. Along with a transferable nationally recognised qualification that, along with other requirements can enable successful candidates to register with a Competent Person Scheme provider.

 

 

What will you learn on this course?

The course will go through inspection and test procedures and processes including the completion of the required certification step by step. It will build confidence and improve understanding of the requirements and methods to be applied when inspecting and testing new installations or circuits.

When achieved, the recognised award is one of the underpinning knowledge requirements for Competent Person Scheme membership/registration. This is an ideal steppingstone to attending the 2391-51 course to be able to conduct Periodic Inspections.

The main points covered would be:

  • Safe Isolation
  • Automatic Disconnection of Supply
  • Fault, basic and additional protection
  • Earthing Systems
  • Sequence of tests
  • Single and Three phase testing
  • Theory principles
  • Expected results by use of formulas
  • Completion of certification

The course layout over the 4 days you are in centre are:

  • Day 1: Registration, theory and practical training
  • Day 2: Theory and practical training
  • Day 3: Theory and Practical training
  • Day 4: Theory and Practical Exams - Please note:  this day may be none consecutive

Who can attend?

The award is primarily for practising electricians, who are either experienced in inspection testing but maybe not fully confident in the correct methods and electricians with limited experience of inspection and test.

Candidates will need to be over 18 to sit this with an understanding the operation of own test instruments is advised. A BS 7671 wiring regulations course and/or a Refresher course prior to attendance would be beneficial.

What do you need to bring?

Equipment:

  • Own test instruments with calibration certificate
  • Hand tools and Safe Isolation Equipment – a limited number are available to borrow if need be
