This course is for experienced electricians wishing to achieve a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of small-scale grid tied photovoltaic systems and the design, installation, and commissioning of electrical energy storage systems. The course includes generic industry practices involved with these technologies (not manufacturer specifics).
This qualification is based upon the National Occupational Standards as published by industry, it has been designed in conjunction with the latest IET Code of Practice and is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join the scheme.

Description
This Course Covers (over 5 Days)
Over the 5 days you will receive both practical and theoretical training in the following areas:
- Know the requirements to install, commission and handover small scale solar photovoltaic systems
- Know the requirements to inspect, service and maintain small scale solar photovoltaic systems
- Know the key requirements for installation of electrical energy storage systems
- Know and identify equipment, arrangements and operating modes of electrical energy storage systems
- Understand the preparation of design and installation of electrical energy storage systems
- Understand requirements for initial verification and handover of electrical energy storage systems
- Be able to conduct initial verification and handover of electrical energy storage systems
SPV Course Structure (over 3 days)
The first section of the course is designed to provide installers with the knowledge, skills and understanding to install, commission and maintain solar photovoltaic panels and systems. Within the course you will cover:
- System configurations
- Solar system design
- Solar modules
- Solar module mounting structures & arrays
- Electrical wiring of the solar system and associated components
- Grid-connected solar systems
- Sizing solar systems
- System testing & commissioning
- Battery system modes
- Battery system design
- Legislation for a switched alternative source of energy
- Battery packaged systems - coupling
- Electrical wiring of the battery system and associated components
- Grid-connected battery systems
- Sizing battery systems
- System testing & commissioning

LCL Awards - Course Requirements
Who can attend?
This qualification is aimed at electricians working within domestic and/or non-domestic premises and they shall hold and evidence as a minimum:
- A Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 (current edition) and A Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations or a combined award including Periodic Inspection & Testing
- Scottish equivalents through SELECT. A SELECT Customised Award in Requirements for Electrical Installations to BS 7671 (218) and A SELECT Customised Award in Initial Verification (209) or a combined award including Periodic Inspection & Testing (214)
If the applicant does not hold a Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations or SELECT equivalent as above, then they must hold one of the following:
- A Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment
- An SVQ in Electrical Installations (SCQF level 7) A Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings
- An Experienced Worker Qualification. An ECS Gold Card (Installation or Approved Electrician) Be a member of a competent person scheme, as a Qualified Supervisor that meets the requirements of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS)

Candidate must be competent electricians and hold and evidence one of the qualifications listed below or other qualifications listed in EAS tables A4.7 and 4.8 routes 1, 2, 3 and BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification:
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) (2357)
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)(2357)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (5357)
- Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356)
- Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services
- Electrical Installation (Building and Structures)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
- EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3)
- Electrotechnical Installation
- ECS Gold Card (for domestic electrician), JIB Electrician (Not PAT tester only) or Approved Electrician Card
- Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
For learners in Scotland: Any of the above or
SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF level 7 + Up to date BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
Note: Stand-alone technical certificates/vocationally related qualifications (VRQ) (non-competency based) are NOT acceptable
