Description

The UK is aiming to become net-zero by 2050. The transport sector is one of the UK’s largest emitters of CO2 and a major source of air pollution in cities. The UK government’s commitment to end the sale of conventional petrol and diesel cars by 2035, and the growing adoption of hybrid and fully electric vehicles (over 780,000 plug-in vehicles already on UK roads), is driving huge demand for a reliable, nationwide charging infrastructure. This qualification provides a strong platform for electricians to take advantage of that demand.

This qualification services as a supplementary short courses, supporting the professional development of competent electricians who meet the awarding body pre-requisites (see the courses requirements for each below) These courses covers the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for the charging of pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric road vehicles (PHEV) and includes the extended range electric vehicles (E-REV).

It covers the installation of both AC and DC charging equipment intended for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) complying with BS EN 61851 and “The Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation” and requirements of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022.
This qualification is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and may be required by MCS certified employers.
