Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
ADR refers to various methods used to resolve disputes, such as: Mediation: An independent third party helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable solution. Arbitration: An independent third party reviews the facts and makes a decision that is often binding on one or both parties.
Appropriate Organisations
Companies, Businesses, Schemes or Charity’s that are suitable to help/support due to expertise, resource and compliance.
Assisting Party
Companies, Businesses, Schemes or Charity’s that are suitable to help/support due to expertise, resource and compliance.
Building Regulations
Building Regulations are a set of Standards designed to ensure that buildings are safe, healthy and energy efficient. They cover various aspects of construction and renovation. These may vary depending upon location within the UK.
Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC)
A BRCC is an official document that certifies that building work complies with the relevant Building Regulations. These may vary depending upon location within the UK.
Certification
Certification is the process of verifying that a product, service, or individual meets specific Standards or criteria.
Commissioning/Commissioned
Commissioning is a systematic process that ensures all components of a project, building, or system are designed, installed, tested and functioning according to the specified requirements.
Compensation
Money that is paid to someone in exchange for something that has been lost or damaged
Compliance
The act of adhering to Rules, Regulations, Standards, or Laws.
Compliance Panel
A group established to evaluate and ensure adherence to specific Regulations, Standards, or Policies.
Consumer
An individual or group that purchases/receives goods or services for their own personal use.
Contract
A contract is a legally binding agreement between two or more parties that outlines their rights and obligations.
Cooperation
Cooperation is the process of working together towards a common goal.
Competent Person Scheme (CPS)
NAPIT is a Government-approved Competent Person Scheme (CPS) provider, meaning NAPIT Members can self-certify that their work complies with Building Regulations without needing to submit a building notice or use an approved inspector.
Design
The process of creating a plan or solution to address a specific problem or need.
Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
DNOs are companies that are authorised to distribute electricity in the UK. Licensed companies that own and operate the network of cables, transformers and towers that bring electricity from the national transmission network to businesses and homes.
Emergency
An emergency is an unexpected and often dangerous situation that requires immediate action.
Complaint Handler
The person responsible for managing and facilitating complaints in a professional and effective manner.
Handover Documentation
A comprehensive set of documents prepared at the end of a construction/installation project to ensure a smooth transition from the Business/Installer to the Consumer/Owner, including but not limited to Operation and Maintenance Manuals, Warranties and Guarantees and Compliance Certificates.
Harassment
Repeated unwanted behaviour that causes distress, fear, or discomfort to another person.
Hinderance
Hindrance refers to something or someone that provides resistance, delay, or obstruction.
Improvement Action (IA)
Remedial action(s) required to bring an installation into compliance.
Improvement Action Report (IAR)
A document that outlines the evidenced non-compliance and actions required to bring work into compliance.
Installation
The process of setting up equipment, machinery, or systems for use.
Installation Certificate
A document issued upon the completion of new installations or significant modifications to existing systems. It verifies that the work has been carried out by a qualified professional and meets current safety Standards and Regulations.
Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG)
An insurance policy that covers the guaranteed work completed in the event a Business/Trades person “ceases to trade”.
Legal Rights
Legal rights are protections and entitlements granted to individuals by law.
Main Contractor
The primary entity responsible for the overall project.
Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)
MCS is a Standards Organisation for renewable technology. Membership of MCS demonstrates adherence to recognised industry Standards, highlighting quality, competency and compliance.
Media
Visual evidence of the issue such as recordings and photographs.
Member
A Business/Tradesperson who has demonstrated their competence, holds the necessary insurances and has the right processes and procedures in place to assure compliance.
Non-conformity (NC)
Where a requirement of a specific Standard, procedure, or Regulation is not met. Non-conformities may relate to work, documentation, or a process, and could impact the quality or safety of the installation.
Pre Installation Paperwork
Documented records and compliance checks that are completed before starting any installation project, such as, contracts, project/site surveys and designs.
PAS 2030
PAS 2030 is a Standard with the primary objective to provide a robust, uniformly applicable specification for installation of energy efficiency improvement measures.
Post Installation Paperwork
Documentation to confirm that the work carried out by the Business/Installer is compliant with relevant Standards and Regulations, also referred to as “Handover Documents”.
Proposal
To provide a plan to address and remediate identified issues or non-conformities.
Rectification
Correcting something or making something right.
Remit
The scope or range of responsibilities assigned to a person or organisation.
Representative
Someone chosen or appointed to act or speak for another person or group.
Sanctions
Restrictive measures imposed by an organisation to influence the behavior of Businesses/Installers.
Subcontract
Assigning part of the obligations and tasks under a contract to another party
Supporting Documentation/Evidence
Information or objects that establish facts and support the complaint. Written or recorded materials, such as contracts, emails, or photographs.
System
A set of interacting or interrelated components that work together to form a unified whole.
Technical Compliance
The adherence to technical Standards, Regulations and requirements.
Technical Referrals
Directing a specific technical issue or task to a specialist or expert who can address it more effectively.
TrustMark (TM)
TrustMark is the Government Endorsed Quality Scheme for work a consumer chooses to have carried out in or around their property.
Valid Complaint
A valid complaint refers to an issue raised that meets the defined criteria for review and resolution, as per the NAPIT Complaints Policy.
