International Firefighters’ Day: Tackle Hidden Fire Risks with These Top Home Safety Tips

Many people unknowingly put themselves and their families at risk of electrical fires and shocks through everyday actions. From overloading sockets to charging devices overnight under pillows, these habits can have devastating consequences.
In fact, the London Fire Brigade has attended over 26,000 electrical fires in London alone since 2017 - A shocking figure that highlights just how serious the issue is.
The Hidden Dangers in Your Home
Recent data from the Home Office reveals that in the year ending March 2023:
There were 24,083 accidental dwelling fires in England.
Approximately 29% of these were caused by the misuse of equipment or appliances, including overloading sockets or using faulty devices.
Cooking appliances were the largest ignition category, accounting for 44% of these fires.
Electrical distribution and appliances remain one of the leading causes of accidental fires in the home.
