Premier Training Academy Sparks New Opportunities

It has been announced that the sale of new diesel and petrol cars will be banned in the UK from 2040. Coupled with the current growth in the hybrid and plug-in vehicle markets, it is clear that demand for car charging points will only increase. Premier Training Academy offers a solution to this increasing demand through an Electrical Vehicle (EV) training course for electricians.

Following the announcement of the forthcoming ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles, the Government’s Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill specifies that motorway service areas and large fuel retailers should install charging points. This will result in current electric vehicle owners having more options to charge their vehicles when needed, and will ultimately benefit electricians who are able to carry out EV installations.

Approved ultra-low emission vehicle owners, leasers of eligible vehicles for at least six months, or primary drivers of eligible company cars for at least six months, can apply for grant funding of up to 75% (up to a £500 maximum) towards the cost of installing electric charge points at domestic properties across the UK, through the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS).

To obtain the grant on behalf of customers, installers must be approved by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). OLEV lead credit checks and customer experience checks, and installers must also be accepted by the charge point manufacturers and be with a Competent Person Scheme such as NAPIT or an equivalent organisation. Installations must be carried out in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations and with the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.

Premier Training Academy’s City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Domestic, Commercial & Industrial Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation Course is specifically designed for experienced and registered electricians who are interested in expanding or diversifying their business by learning to install EV charging points.

The two-day course provides the installation skills and knowledge to help make the most of potential consumer demand for low cost alternatives to conventional fuel, as well as the tax reductions and incentives ‘going electric’ can provide.

Michael Collinge, Head of Premier Training Academy said, "As we can see, electrical vehicles are proving to be more popular, with demand for electric vehicle charging points rising as a result. At Premier Training Academy, we offer a solution to this increasing demand with our domestic, commercial and industrial vehicle charging course aimed at helping installers become competent and knowledgeable in installing charging points."
