NAPIT's Ventilation Scheme

The scope of the scheme:

Scheme member who carry out any of the work outlined below can self-certify their work under the NAPIT ventilation scheme from 6th April onwards. The scope of the scheme is detailed in the Statutory Instrument 2006 No. 652 as follows:-
'Installation of an air conditioning or ventilation system in an existing dwelling, which does not involve work on systems shared with other dwellings'.

Qualification requirements:

Extract Ventilation Systems

Applicants wishing to join the ventilation scheme will be required to hold a qualification but if this cannot be proven before signing up to the scheme, and they can demonstrate previous experience, they may join subject to a satisfactory on site assessment and will be given 1 year to get their qualification(s). Applicants holding any of the suitable qualifications outlined below are likely to have the necessary skills and knowledge required to join the ventilation scheme but will still need an on-site assessment prior to joining.

NAPIT Inspectors will carry out the on-site assessment of all applicant businesses to ensure the work activity is being carried our competently. The assessment will confirm operative competence by undertaking an on-site work inspection and knowledge check. A scheme assessment will also be undertaken which focuses on the management systems used by the business to administer and control the activity. Any certificates will be checked as part of this process.

Ventilation Systems

If you have any suitable qualifications please provide copies of the certificates; otherwise NAPIT will carry out an on-site assessment on application and you will have 1 year to gain a relevant certificate.

Air Conditioning

N/SVQ Level 3 eg. City & Guilds 6017 or equivalent - see explanation above. Other certification will be applicable to the safe handling of refrigerant gasses.
