The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers, NAPIT, was formed in 1992 with the aim of enhancing the success and excellence of its membership through the promotion of professionalism, best business practices and leadership for the engineering and construction industry.

Towards the end of 2006 a number of regional councils were being established where members elected representatives onto the National Council of Members and from the National Council two representatives are to be elected onto the N.A.P.I.T.
