BRIGHT SPARKS TAKE TOP PRIZES AT NAPIT
NAPIT has rewarded all top achievers from this years technical Skills Competition for Young Electricians with Gold, Silver and Bronze places at two different skill levels, at their head office in Mansfield.
The two-day competition took place at Elex 2008 in March at Harrogate, Young trainee electricians were tested in the first stage of the competition on wiring, fault finding, inspecting and testing, Level 2 being intermediate and Level 3 slightly more complex. The winner of the competition has been invited to compete in the SkillELECTRIC North of England Competition at The Leeds College of Building, later this month.
At Level 2 Ashley Dunn, from Bury College, collected a Gold Medal, Lee Campbell, from Harrogate College, collected a Silver Medal and Chris Grange, from Keighley College, collected a Bronze Medal. All students were presented with a selection of prizes with Bury College taking home the NAPIT Trophy to display at their college until next years competition.
At Level 3 students, all from Burnley College, took the glory with Chris Richards winning a Gold Medal, Kyle Fallows winning a Silver Medal and David Batt winning a Bronze Medal. Again Level 3 winners received a selection of prizes, with Gold Winner Chris Richards qualifying for the next stages of the SkillELECTRIC northern final.
NAPIT Chief Executive John Andrews said, “Competitions such as this are crucial for the future of electrical engineering and demonstrate the high level of skill required to be a professional electrician. This was a tough test but one which gave the trainees an opportunity to shine and they should be proud of their achievement."
David Thomas, UK Skills Training Manager for Electrical Installations, also attended the Prize Giving Day and gave a short talk to the students on the importance of national competitions such as this one for the industry.
All winners also received a £50 cheque each and 2-years Student Membership with NAPIT which awards them with useful information, advice and discounts to assist them on their chosen career path. NAPIT would like to thank Megger, Di-Log and Active Workwear for their kind prize donations of work clothing and test instruments.
