NAPIT Welcomes Changes to Home Information Packs
NAPIT has welcomed the publication of The Home Information Pack Regulations 2007 on 29 March and the news that it must now contain information about work done under self-certification schemes for Building Regulations such as those run by NAPIT for electricians, plumbers, heating and ventilation engineers.
Meeting the requirement puts no further work onto the householder because the information is collected automatically via the search carried out by the local authority, and it puts no further work on installers because the notification of work that they already carry out provides the information in the first place.
What the new regulations do is to give a significant push to consumers to use members of self-certification schemes and get their work certificated. The requirement to provide a HIP comes into force from 1 June 2007 although some local authorities may not be able to provide self-certification information until later in the year.
